The NFL did not find any evidence to back up claims that kicker Brandon McManus sexually assaulted two female flight attendants on the Jacksonville team flight to London in 2023.
“There was insufficient evidence to support a finding that a violation of the personal conduct policy occurred,” said league spokesman Brian McCarthy in a statement.
Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the two women, expressed confusion over the NFL’s conclusion.
“We are still working to schedule a meeting between the NFL’s investigators and our clients,” Buzbee stated. “The NFL hasn’t yet spoken with our clients, so I’m a bit confused as to why anyone could conclude that at this point.”
A source familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that Buzbee’s office did not respond to several attempts by the league to arrange those interviews.
The source, who requested to remain anonymous because the discussions are private, said the league reached out via email and phone after the initial lawsuit was filed by the women and throughout the summer.
The league considers the case closed but could reopen it if new evidence is presented.
The women, who initially filed court documents in late May under the names Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, claim that McManus tried to kiss one of them and rubbed against both while they were working during the September 28, 2023, flight. The team was traveling to play two games in England.
The women are seeking more than $1 million in damages.
