Trea Turner will be out for at least six weeks due to a left hamstring strain sustained in the fourth inning of Philadelphia’s 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

The Phillies placed the two-time All-Star shortstop on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, but Turner expressed that he will require more time to recover. “I dislike being injured,” he stated.

Turner has been in the starting lineup for all 30 games this season, contributing to the Phillies’ (22-11) status as the team with the most wins in baseball as of Saturday. He currently boasts a batting average of .343 with two home runs, 10 doubles, nine RBIs, and 10 stolen bases.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson acknowledged the significant loss, stating that any absence of Turner would be detrimental.

“It’s a major setback,” he remarked. “We’re talking about Trea Turner, one of the top players in baseball.”

Turner had two hits in Friday’s game, aiding the Phillies in securing their 14th victory in their last 17 games.

He sustained his injury during an impressive display of hustle. After singling, Turner stole second base and then scored from there on a passed ball during a walk to Bryce Harper. The speedy shortstop narrowly avoided the tag by right-hander Jordan Hicks, and the plate umpire Brian Walsh’s safe call was confirmed by video review.

“It was an outstanding play,” Thomson commented. “It won us the game.” Turner injured his left hamstring while running the bases between third and home. To fill Turner’s spot on the roster, the Phillies called up Kody Clemens from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
