The Saints used the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program to get a new kicker. Agent Paul Sheehy said Charlie Smyth signed with the Saints. Smyth went to the Scouting Combine and tried out for the Saints this week.

Before trying the NFL, Smyth was a goalkeeper for the Gaelic football club Down in Ireland. NFL UK posted a video of Smyth kicking a 63-yard field goal this week. He’ll have a chance to show off his skills when the Saints’ offseason program starts next month.

Smyth joins Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit as an international player who joined NFL teams this week. Rees-Zammit is with the Chiefs. This season, all 32 teams will have an extra spot on their practice squads for players from the program.

The Saints also have Blake Grupe, who had a good rookie season. He made 30 of 37 field goals and all 40 extra points last year.
