On Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants placed outfielder-designated hitter Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list due to a strain in his right shoulder. To fill his spot on the roster, they called up outfielder Heliot Ramos from their Triple-A team in Sacramento.
Soler’s placement on the injured list was backdated to Sunday, as he had already missed the last three games. His batting average stood at .202 with five home runs and 8 RBIs.
Soler had joined the Giants during the offseason after signing a three-year, $42 million contract as a free agent.
Giants manager Bob Melvin noted that Soler had been experiencing discomfort in his shoulder whenever he tried to swing in the cage, indicating that he needed more than just a few days to recover.
Ramos, who was drafted by the Giants in the first round in 2017, had been performing well in Sacramento this season, with a batting average of .296 and eight home runs in 30 games.
Although Ramos had previously appeared in 34 games for the Giants over the past two seasons, his batting average during that time was .158.
