After a couple of weeks of scattered rumors of a budding romance between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, she showed up at a Chiefs game on Sunday. And everyone basically lost their minds over it.
A spokesperson for the apparel manufacturer told the Press that sales of Kelce’s jersey blew up on Sunday with “a nearly 400% spike in sales throughout the Fanatics network of sites, including NFLShop.com”.
After the game, Kelce did not speak to the media but was spotted leaving the stadium with Swift before the two drove away in a convertible.
Kelce’s move on Swift after months of courting
The dinner Kelce and Swift reportedly had came after months of courting by Kelce, who, after rumors began bubbling up that the two were dating, went on “The Pat McAfee Show” last week and revealed he had put the invitation out there.
“I threw the ball in her court and told her, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead. You might have to come to see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit,'” Kelce said.
This is just a normal love story that all rage about in the NFL. This got so famous that even famous Curmudgeon Bill Belnick had an opinion about the potential relationship.
TV Ratings spiked, the impact of Swift
Jersey was not the only thing to benefit from sales. Fox Sports announced on Tuesday that Sinday’s Chief got the highest rating of the week for any network, with 24.3 million views.
It made noticeable how much of an impact Swift had in terms of watching what was quickly a one-sided football game and a game where, in a number of markets, Fox turned away after a 34-0 halftime score.
In the aftermath of the 41-10 win over the Bears, Kelce had seen an increase in social media followers from 300,000 and a perfect bump in merch sales. Yes, Kelce now risks becoming someone to whom the future lyrics of a Taylor Swift song are devoted if the relationship ends poorly.
The first piece of tangible proof might come on Sunday night when plenty of youngsters otherwise disinterested in the NFL will be tuning in to see Kelce’s Chiefs play the Jets. It will make the ratings for the Rodgers-less game very revealing.
