The Washington Commanders started finding a replacement for kicker Brandon McManus on Tuesday. They signed Ramiz Ahmed before the next practice of offseason workouts.
McManus was let go on Sunday night after two women filed lawsuits against him, claiming he sexually assaulted them while they worked as flight attendants last year during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ trip to London.
When news of the lawsuit came out last week, the Commanders said they were looking into it. This happened before McManus joined them in March.
Ahmed, who is 28 years old, was previously on the practice squad with Chicago and Green Bay. He played in preseason games for the Packers in 2022. Most recently, he played for Birmingham in the United Football League earlier this year.
Washington is currently in phase three of organized team activities this week. They might bring in more kickers before training camp starts in late July. The team’s new general manager, Adam Peters, and coach, Dan Quinn, might also look for kicking options from roster cuts in other teams during the summer.
Initially, McManus was the plan for the position, and the Commanders signed him to a $3.6 million contract for the 2024 season, with $1.5 million guaranteed at signing.
Brett R. Gallaway, McManus’s attorney, stated again on Sunday that he believes the allegations against McManus are “absolutely false.” He added that there is evidence and inconsistencies in the accusers’ statements that contradict the allegations.
