Since joining the league in 2017, Donovan Mitchell has emerged as a top-tier guard in the NBA. The five-time All-Star recently shared insights into the players he looks up to as role models for his own game.
In a conversation with Thanasis Antetokounmpo on the “Thanalysis” podcast, the Cleveland Cavaliers standout was asked about the players he has tried to pattern his game after in the NBA. Mitchell pointed to two elite two-way players, Jrue Holiday and LA Clippers’ star Paul George.
“Those two, Jrue and PG. They have some unique qualities and skills that set them apart,” Mitchell remarked. “Their ability to move and defend despite their height is something I admire.
While I’m still working on reaching my best defensive potential, I believe I’ve made significant strides.”
Mitchell’s choice of Jrue Holiday and Paul George as role models is well-founded, considering their impact on contending teams. Holiday has been instrumental in the Boston Celtics’ success since joining them, contributing to their league-leading record this season.
Meanwhile, Paul George has played a pivotal role in the LA Clippers’ resurgence after a challenging period following the James Harden trade.
