Sergio Ramos’ past remarks regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Real Madrid have resurfaced.

In the summer of 2018, Ronaldo bid farewell to Los Blancos, sealing a reported €117 million move to Serie A powerhouse Juventus. The departure marked the end of an illustrious era for the Portuguese superstar, who had enjoyed a historic tenure at the Spanish club since joining in 2009.

During that time, Ramos expressed his sentiments, suggesting that if it were up to him, Ronaldo would have retired from Real Madrid. He emphasized that the separation benefitted neither the club nor the player.

Ramos articulated (via CristianoXtra on X):

“If I were the president, I wouldn’t have let Cristiano leave. The bond between Real Madrid and Ronaldo should have been lifelong. Both Ronaldo and Real Madrid have suffered in this situation; there were no winners.”

Ronaldo’s legacy at Real Madrid speaks volumes, with a staggering 450 goals in 438 appearances, setting a club record. His illustrious tenure also saw him lift 17 trophies, including four UEFA Champions League titles.

Sergio Ramos, the former captain of Los Blancos, departed the club in 2021, completing a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. Currently, the ex-Spain captain plies his trade at his hometown club Sevilla.
