During Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland seemed to hurt his right shoulder while serving as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning.
Freeland, who is the Rockies’ opening-day starter, came in with two outs while the game was tied at 1-all after Elias Diaz’s double. He attempted to score after a wild pitch by Jeff Hoffman, but was tagged out by Hoffman after a throw from catcher J.T. Realmuto.
Freeland immediately grabbed his right shoulder, which he used to brace himself during the slide, and left the field with a Colorado trainer.
Replays confirmed the outcall made by home-plate umpire D.J. Rayburn. The Rockies were without Kris Bryant (back stiffness) and Brendan Rodgers (illness) for the game.
Freeland, who has struggled this season with a 0-3 record and a high ERA, is not expected to pitch in the upcoming three-game series.
