Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve recognized early in training camp that her Lynx team had the potential to be exceptional.
So far, the team has met her expectations, winning the Commissioner’s Cup in June and making it to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2017, when they last won one of their four championships.
“We had a way about us that we played for each other,” she said. “Didn’t know what it would translate into.”
Now, the Lynx are just three wins away from achieving a WNBA record fifth title. They are currently tied with the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm for the most championships in league history.
However, they will face the New York Liberty, who are eager to win their first championship. Game 1 is set for Thursday night.
The Liberty have reached the Finals six times since the WNBA started in 1997, but they have not yet secured a title, including a loss to Las Vegas last year.
