Anthony Joshua coach talks ‘dangerous’ Francis Ngannou

Ben Davison closely observed Francis Ngannou’s venture into professional boxing during his debut against Tyson Fury last October.

Davison played a pivotal role in Fury’s comeback to the ring after the boxer’s three-year hiatus, which began following his triumph over Wladimir Klitschko in late 2015. Guiding Fury’s return to fighting form, Davison remained by his side until Fury’s second bout with Deontay Wilder.

Renowned for his work with Fury, Davison recently teamed up with Anthony Joshua, their collaboration marking its debut with a resounding victory over Otto Wallin in December. Wallin had previously posed a challenge for Fury in a closely contested 12-round decision in September 2019.

Reflecting on Ngannou’s performance in his narrow split decision loss to Fury, Davison anticipates a formidable challenge for Joshua when he faces Ngannou in Riyadh next Friday.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Davison acknowledged Ngannou’s prowess, emphasizing the danger he poses. Despite post-fight critiques suggesting Fury’s subpar performance, Davison commended Ngannou’s competitiveness against Fury, a boxer widely regarded as the top in his class.

Davison emphasized Ngannou’s ability to deliver a highly competitive fight against Fury, highlighting the significance of the impending clash between the two world champions. Drawing from his experience working with Fury, Davison emphasized the importance of mental preparedness alongside physical training.

He admitted to being surprised by Ngannou’s performance, acknowledging the challenge of giving opponents the respect they deserve while maintaining competitive focus.

Furthermore, Davison stressed the necessity of analyzing opponents’ strengths, weaknesses, and fighting styles to tailor strategies accordingly.

He affirmed ongoing preparations to ensure Joshua is fully equipped for the forthcoming showdown with Ngannou, emphasizing the importance of thorough research and strategic planning in their approach.
