UFC Vegas 89 Bonus Report: Five fighters take home an extra $50k

The Octagon held court once again in Nevada for the latest installment of UFC Vegas 89, featuring a stacked thirteen-bout fight card headlined by the clash between Amanda Ribas and Rose Namajunas.

The women’s flyweight main event promised an intense showdown, and it certainly delivered. Over the course of a hard-fought twenty-five minutes, Rose Namajunas surged ahead in the early rounds, showcasing her prowess. However, Amanda Ribas rallied back emphatically in the third round, decisively outperforming her opponent. Despite the closely contested fourth and fifth rounds, Namajunas managed to secure a decision victory, marking her debut win in the flyweight division.

In the co-main event, a heavyweight showdown between Karl Williams and Justin Tafa took center stage. Williams, hailing from the United States, emerged victorious with a unanimous decision. Displaying superior wrestling skills, he managed to control the grappling exchanges, securing the win. Despite Tafa’s powerful strikes, which momentarily rocked Williams, he couldn’t capitalize, ultimately falling short on the judges’ scorecards.

The title of “Fight of the Night” went to featherweight contenders Jarno Errens and Steven Nguyen, who engaged in a thrilling battle on the preliminary card. Errens clinched the victory via unanimous decision, earning both fighters a $50k bonus.

Earning the “Performance of the Night” bonus, Payton Talbott secured a swift second-round TKO victory over Cameron Saaiman.

Similarly, Fernando Padilla received the “Performance of the Night” bonus for his impressive first-round submission win against Luis Pajuelo.

In an unexpected turn, André Lima found himself awarded the “Bite of the Night” bonus after his opponent, Igor Severino, bit him during their bout. Lima ultimately won the fight by disqualification, taking home an additional $50k.
