FF7 Rebirth Save Transfer: Unveiling the Compatibility with Previous Installments

Thread
Is FF7 Rebirth Save Transfer Possible?

No, FF7 Rebirth does not support save transfer from the previous installment, Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed this in a recent interview, stating that each game in the trilogy is standalone, and save files won’t carry over due to independent balancing.

While disappointing for fans, the decision is understandable, as integrating player levels, abilities, armor, and weapons from the previous game would pose significant challenges for Square Enix in maintaining game balance.

Instead, players with a Final Fantasy 7 Remake save file will receive special bonuses in FF7 Rebirth, such as the Leviathan Summon Materia. Episode Intermission save data on PS5 will grant players additional Summon Materia. Square Enix has also partnered with Apex Legends for promotional events, offering new content like the Buster Sword and unique Material inspired by FF7 Rebirth.

FF7 Rebirth introduces new Materia, a playable character, Red XIII with a “revenge gauge” mechanic, and various mini-games. Although playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake is recommended for a complete understanding of the storyline, co-director Motomu Toriyama assures that preparations have been made for newcomers to fully enjoy FF7 Rebirth without playing the prequel.

In conclusion, while save transfer isn’t an option, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth promises an expansive open world, engaging side quests, a robust storyline, and ample new content for players to explore and enjoy.
