The Mason Greenwood transfer saga, ongoing for more than two years, is finally nearing its end. The Manchester United forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe, will travel to France for a medical with Marseille and then finalize his move to the club.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marseille have reached a basic agreement with Greenwood. The transfer fee has been set at €31.6 million (£26.7 million), with €26.6 million (£23.3 million) paid initially and €4 million (£3.4 million) in potential add-ons.

Considering Greenwood’s situation at Manchester United, where he was unlikely to play again after being suspended indefinitely in January 2022 due to serious allegations, this deal is seen as reasonable.

There was public controversy surrounding Marseille’s interest in Greenwood, but the club has decided to proceed with the transfer. Despite interest from other clubs like Lazio, Napoli, and Juventus, Marseille appears to be the best fit for both Greenwood and United, as the deal includes a significant future sell-on fee for United.

Overall, this move is beneficial for all parties involved, allowing Manchester United to reinvest close to €27 million in new players once the transfer is completed.
