Nelly Korda has decided to take a break from her quest for a record-breaking sixth consecutive victory.

The LPGA golfer officially pulled out of the JM Eagle LA Championship, which kicks off on Thursday at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. Korda’s withdrawal comes after she tied Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam with her fifth consecutive win at the Chevron Championship near Houston, marking the first major of the year.

In a statement posted on the LPGA Tour website, Korda expressed that it was a difficult decision to make. She cited the physical and mental toll of competing in four events over the past five weeks, culminating in her remarkable win at The Chevron. Feeling exhausted, Korda emphasized the importance of listening to her body and prioritizing rest to ensure she is prepared for the rest of the 2024 season.

Korda’s victory at the Chevron Championship, where she clinched a two-shot win, marked her second career major and her fifth consecutive win in as many starts.

While Korda did not specify her return date, the Cognizant Founders Cup in New Jersey is scheduled for May 9-12 following the LA Championship. The next major event on the calendar is the U.S. Women’s Open in Pennsylvania from May 30 to June 2.
