Red Bull KTM Parts Ways with Dakar Legend Toby Price: A Shift in Rally Dynamics

Thread

Following Red Bull KTM’s decision not to extend the contract of Toby Price, the two-time Dakar winner and former Rally-Raid World Champion, the Australian icon will bid farewell to the team.

Expressing his thoughts on KTM’s choice, Price remarked, “KTM has chosen not to renew my contract, so Dakar 2024 marked the end of my journey with them… I still believe I have a lot to offer, especially in Dakar, and it’s disappointing not to have the chance to pursue that in 2025. Nonetheless, I’m deeply appreciative of the support they’ve provided throughout my career.”

This development comes on the heels of a significant setback for the Red Bull KTM Rally team, who suffered a notable defeat at the hands of Honda in the 2024 Dakar Rally.

Price’s fifth-place finish this year was hampered by various challenges encountered by the KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS squads in Saudi Arabia, coupled with significant errors made during the event, ultimately paving the way for Honda’s triumph.

Furthermore, 2024 marks a strategic shift for Red Bull KTM, as they have chosen to participate in selected events rather than committing to the entire FIM World Rally-Raid Championship, focusing their efforts on Dakar 2025.

While Price remains enthusiastic about competing in rally events where experience is paramount, he has yet to disclose any concrete plans regarding his future career endeavors.
