Scottie Scheffler continued his impressive performance at the RBC Heritage on Saturday, carding another flawless round with an 8-under 63 to take a one-shot lead heading into the final round, putting him on the cusp of a rare achievement in golf history.
Not since Bernhard Langer in 1985 has a Masters champion won the following week on the PGA Tour at Harbour Town. The only other instance was Gary Player in 1978 at the Tournament of Champions.
Scheffler, fresh off his Masters victory, remains focused and determined, aiming to join this exclusive club of back-to-back winners. With his consistent play and unwavering concentration, he holds the lead going into the final round.
Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler remarked, “I think when I’m playing my best, sometimes it feels like I’m competing against myself a little bit out there, trying to keep pushing and stay as focused as I can. At the end of the day, we’re out here competing against the best players in the world. I love competing against these guys, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of coming out and competing tomorrow.”
Scheffler’s impressive display includes 51 consecutive holes at par or better at Harbour Town and 39 consecutive rounds at par or better dating back to last August.
Despite the formidable competition, including seasoned pros like Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Åberg, Scheffler remains undeterred, displaying remarkable consistency and skill on the course.
With the final round looming, Scheffler’s challengers acknowledge his exceptional form and recognize the daunting task ahead. Patrick Rodgers, in particular, acknowledges Scheffler’s dominance, stating, “It feels inevitable at this point… For me to have a chance tomorrow, I’m going to have to play 18 great holes.
