WWE icon John Cena recently hinted that his availability for WrestleMania 40 remains uncertain.
In an interview with Monica Sisavat Solis of ET Online, Cena expressed uncertainty when questioned about the possibility of wrestling or making an appearance at the Grandest Stage of Them All, stating:
“I don’t know if I’ll be free that weekend, but it is a weekend, and movies don’t typically shoot on the weekends. But when I say I’m done— in WWE, they say never say never, and a lot of people retire and then make surprising comebacks. I’m just being honest with myself. There’s such a phenomenal new generation of talent now. It’s time to pass the electrifying torch on to those who can be there every day.”
During the same interview, Cena disclosed his intention to retire from in-ring competition by the age of 50, implying that he has approximately three more years in the wrestling industry.
Despite primarily focusing on his burgeoning Hollywood acting career, the 16-time world champion has maintained a limited WWE schedule in recent years.
However, he has managed to participate in at least one WWE match annually. In 2023, Cena faced Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39 and made a surprising return for another WWE stint during the fall.
Cena’s most recent WWE appearance occurred at Crown Jewel in November, where he faced a formidable challenge against Solo Sikoa. This match could potentially set the stage for his return and redemption at WrestleMania.
Considering Cena’s purported three-year timeframe for his wrestling career, it’s plausible that he would be keen to maximize his WrestleMania appearances before bidding adieu to the squared circle.
