Xavi Hernández explained that he changed his mind about leaving Barcelona this summer after being persuaded by his players that they still have a winning team, despite not winning any trophies this season.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Xavi revealed that he had agreed with Barcelona to stay until the end of his contract in June 2025, reversing his earlier decision to depart after this season.
He credited the team’s improved performance as a crucial factor in his decision, along with feeling confident in his ability to continue leading.
Putting the team’s interests first has always been Xavi’s priority, and while he initially thought a new approach was needed, he now believes they can still achieve success. He emphasized that his decision wasn’t influenced by money, stating that he wouldn’t have asked for payment if he hadn’t fulfilled his contract.
The choice to stay came after a disappointing loss to Real Madrid, which effectively ended Barcelona’s trophy hopes for the season.
Despite this setback, the team has shown improvement since Xavi’s initial announcement to leave in January, going unbeaten for 13 games before their recent defeat to PSG.
