Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is on the brink of a surprising move to South Korean club FC Seoul as a free agent. According to Footy Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the forward is poised to resume his playing career by joining the Asian side for the rest of the season.
Lingard has been without a club since June when Nottingham Forest opted not to extend his contract following just one season with the club. Despite being a free agent, the England international has encountered difficulties in securing a new team for the current season.
The 31-year-old had a stint training with Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, but a deal failed to materialize. Lingard also reportedly offered his services to Barcelona last month, but the financially troubled Spanish club did not pursue the signing, despite their injury woes.
Additionally, Lingard had expectations of a move to Saudi club Al Shabab in January, but they opted to sign Ivan Rakitic instead.
Now, FC Seoul in South Korea has emerged as Lingard’s potential destination, with the deal expected to be finalized in the coming days.
