Arsenal center-back Gabriel Magalhaes has stood by his team’s celebrations following their victory over Liverpool last Sunday (February 4th). The Brazilian international asserts that celebrating is an integral aspect of football and sees no reason why the Gunners shouldn’t revel in their success.
Arsenal clinched a 3-1 win against Liverpool in their Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium. Bukayo Saka initiated the scoring for the North Londoners in the 14th minute.
Gabriel found himself inadvertently on the wrong side of the scoresheet following a miscommunication between William Saliba and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, resulting in an equalizer before halftime.
Nevertheless, goals from Gabriel Martinelli (67′) and Leandro Trossard (90+2′) in the second half secured all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
After Trossard’s strike, a jubilant Arteta sprinted up and down the touchline, while Martin Odegaard snapped pictures of the club photographer as Arsenal embraced the moment in celebration.
Their exuberance faced criticism from pundits, including Jamie Carragher, who suggested Odegaard should have headed straight to the tunnel after the match. However, Gabriel disagrees with this viewpoint.
In an interview with The Telegraph, the Brazilian center-back stated:
“Celebrations are part of football. If we didn’t have any celebrations, then the game would be no fun. When you win a game like that, it is only natural to celebrate. But the next day it’s back to focusing on West Ham.”
Magalhaes has played a significant role for the Gunners this season, contributing three goals and an assist in 31 appearances across all competitions.
