Jürgen Klopp confessed to breaking a promise during Liverpool’s remarkable comeback win over Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Before their Carabao Cup showdown against Chelsea, Liverpool aimed to widen their lead at the Premier League summit as they faced Luton at Anfield. However, they found themselves trailing after Chiedozie Ogbene’s 12th-minute strike for Luton.

Yet, Liverpool unleashed a ferocious second-half display, netting four goals through Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott to secure a resounding 4-1 victory.

Reflecting on the match, Klopp admitted to veering from his usual approach in the halftime team talk.

He revealed, “Tonight is one of those nights where it is difficult to stop talking. I am so happy. Before the game, nobody knew how the boys would take on the challenge.”

“I will mention this game from now a few times. I promised my team I would never mention the Barcelona game as an example and I used it today so I broke my promise – with so many players missing, it’s quite similar,” Klopp added.

He continued, emphasizing the team’s ability to overcome adversity, stating, “That time, the team ignored the fact who is missing, and I want us to ignore who is missing. That is difficult.”

Klopp marveled at his team’s resilience, highlighting their refusal to succumb to negativity. He praised their spirited fightback, likening it to a “thunderstorm” and commended the Anfield atmosphere for rallying the players. He concluded, “It’s so special. Oh my god.”
