Andrew Luck Says He Never Considered Return from NFL Retirement, Talks Colts Career

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck recently stated that he never entertained the idea of returning to the NFL after his retirement. Luck expressed this sentiment during his attendance at the Chuckstrong Tailgate Gala in Indianapolis, marking nearly five years since his surprising retirement announcement in 2019.

Reflecting on his decision, Luck cited the toll of continuous pain and rehabilitation as significant factors in his departure from football. His career was marred by injuries, including a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in 2015, which sidelined him for the entire 2017 season.

Despite setbacks, Luck had a standout season in 2018. However, ongoing physical issues surfaced during the following offseason, leading to his decision to step away from the sport. This marked the abrupt end of the career of a highly regarded college prospect, known for his talent and potential in the NFL draft.

Acknowledging imperfections in his career and team achievements, Luck expressed gratitude for the effort exerted by himself and his teammates, hoping they provided fans with moments to cherish and be proud of.

Since retiring, Luck has returned to Northern California, pursuing graduate studies in education at Stanford University. He is actively involved as a volunteer coach at Palo Alto High School and enjoys family life as a husband and father of two daughters.

Despite relocating, Luck maintains a strong emotional tie to Indianapolis, acknowledging its profound influence on his life’s journey. He reciprocates the love and appreciation he receives from the city, emphasizing the mutual connection between himself and the community.

During his relatively short NFL tenure of five full seasons and seven games of a sixth, Luck left a notable mark, earning Pro Bowl honors four times and amassing 171 touchdowns in 86 starts. His on-field contributions helped propel the Colts to a 53-33 record during his starts, including four playoff appearances.

Despite falling short of ultimate success, Luck’s teams reached the Divisional round three times and the AFC Championship Game once in 2014. His impact on the franchise and the league is remembered fondly by fans and peers alike, despite his premature exit from professional football.
