Colts’ defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is extending his stay in Indianapolis beyond this season.
Buckner, who was set to enter the final year of his contract, has agreed to a two-year, $46 million extension until the 2026 season, as reported by various sources.
Previously, Buckner was due to receive a $20.25 million base salary and carry a cap hit of $22.75 million for this year.
However, the new agreement likely adjusts these figures, possibly reducing his base salary and cap hit, while providing him with a substantial signing bonus spread over the following years.
Originally drafted by the 49ers as the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the 30-year-old spent four seasons with San Francisco before being traded to the Colts for a first-round pick.
Upon arrival, he signed an extension that added four more years to his rookie deal. Now, with one year remaining on his current contract, he’s securing another extension.
Last season, Buckner played in 72 percent of the Colts’ defensive snaps, tallying eight sacks and earning his third Pro Bowl selection.
