Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been given the green light by team doctors to fully participate in practice. General manager Chris Ballard confirmed that Richardson will face no restrictions when the Colts begin their training camp on Thursday in an Indianapolis suburb.
Ballard addressed reporters on Wednesday as players arrived for camp, expressing confidence in Richardson’s readiness.
“At this point, I don’t anticipate any limitations,” Ballard stated.
Richardson, drafted as the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, had a challenging rookie season with injuries, including surgery on his throwing shoulder last October. Despite these setbacks, he took part in the team’s offseason workouts, although he sat out the final minicamp practice in June due to shoulder soreness.
Coach Shane Steichen had previously indicated that Richardson’s throws would be closely monitored by coaches and medical staff during camp and preseason.
Last week, Richardson expressed optimism about his health and readiness for camp, coinciding with his donation of numerous helmets to the Speedway High School football team.
Additionally, on Wednesday, the Colts placed defensive tackle Raekwon Davis on the non-football illness list and cornerback Chris Lammons on the physically unable to perform list. The team also bolstered its receiving corps by signing free agent Laquon Treadwell and waived receiver Xavier White.
