The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have let go of edge rusher Randy Gregory after he did not show up for training camp.

Coach Todd Bowles mentioned on Sunday that Gregory was released after being placed on the reserve/did not report list on July 23 for missing camp. Bowles said he never learned the reason for Gregory’s absence.

“No, I never found out,” he said. “I wish him the best. We’ll move on from there. You can’t miss what you never had.”

The 31-year-old Gregory, who has also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers, signed a one-year, $3 million deal in free agency. However, he did not take part in the Buccaneers’ voluntary offseason program or attend the mandatory minicamp this summer.

In June, Gregory filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the Broncos, claiming discrimination after being fined $532,500 for using medication containing THC for disabilities while with Denver.

In the lawsuit, Gregory said he was prescribed Dronabinol for social anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders but was not given accommodations to use this medication.

Although the NFL no longer suspends players for positive THC tests, THC is still banned, and players can face fines. Teams do not have a role in fining players for drug policy violations; this is managed by a third-party medical professional.

Gregory has been fined $532,500 for multiple positive THC tests since March 2023, according to the complaint. The lawsuit argues that the NFL’s and Broncos’ refusal to accommodate Gregory’s disabilities is discriminatory under Colorado law.
