Travon Walker had an impressive game even though the Jacksonville Jaguars gave up 447 yards and 24 points in the fourth quarter.
The top pick in the 2022 draft—selected before Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson—recorded three sacks in a 37-34 win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Walker tackled Joe Flacco for a 17-yard loss on the last play, stopping any chance the Colts had of coming back.
He also made a crucial strip-sack at the end of the first half, which led to a field goal. Now, Walker has five sacks in five games, a good start after he had 10 sacks in 2023.
“Man, that was awesome,” said teammate Josh Hines-Allen. “These are the moments I tell Travon he can achieve every game if he stays focused, beats the opponent in front of him, and wins his one-on-one battles. He can have a performance like this every time.”
The Jaguars have been hoping to see Walker move from being a promising player to a dominant one. He has shown flashes of talent and has been strong as a run-stopping defensive end on early downs.
However, they want him to develop into a versatile pass rusher who can win using different techniques.
He played well against the Colts (2-3), who made a late rally. Indianapolis scored two quick touchdowns in the last five minutes to tie the game at 34. Flacco connected with Alex Pierce for a 45-yard play that set up Trey Sermon’s 1-yard touchdown, then found Pierce again for a 65-yard touchdown two minutes later.
Trevor Lawrence then took charge and helped Jacksonville set up rookie Cam Little’s 49-yard field goal with 17 seconds left.
