The New York Giants have ruled out punter Jamie Gillan for their Sunday night game against Cincinnati. They signed veteran Matt Haack to replace him and placed outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux on injured reserve to create space on the roster.

Thibodeaux injured his wrist during last weekend’s game in Seattle and had surgery on Wednesday. He will be out for the next four games. In the first five games of the season, the 23-year-old recorded two sacks, three tackles for loss, and seven quarterback hits.

Gillan got hurt during practice on Friday and was officially ruled out on Saturday, prompting the Giants (2-3) to sign a new punter. Haack was chosen after winning a punting competition and will kick against the Bengals (1-4).

Additionally, the Giants promoted wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins and running back Dante Miller from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Earlier on Saturday, the Giants also announced that running back Devin Singletary (groin) and wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton (shoulder) were downgraded to out, after being listed as questionable in Friday’s injury report.

Haack spent his first four seasons with the Miami Dolphins after going undrafted in 2017. He played for the Buffalo Bills in 2021, where he worked with current Giants coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. In 2022, he played all 17 games for the Indianapolis Colts and appeared in one game with the Cleveland Browns in 2023.

Throughout his career, Haack has played in 99 games, punting the ball 432 times with an average of 44.5 yards per kick, including 160 punts that landed inside the 20-yard line.
