Jones interrupted the hosts of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, asserting that reviewing past decisions was not their role. He expressed frustration, even going as far as suggesting he could replace the hosts if they continued to ask such questions, indicating his impatience with the line of inquiry.
Jones, who was traveling to Atlanta for an NFL league meeting, also faced backlash following the Cowboys’ recent 47-9 home defeat to the Detroit Lions, the worst home loss in his tenure. He told the radio hosts that criticizing the team’s decisions from a radio booth wouldn’t lead to any productive insights. Instead, Jones argued that they were not in a position to evaluate what the team had done right or wrong.
In defending the team’s personnel, Jones highlighted recent high-profile signings, such as quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, as proof of the team’s commitment to building a strong roster. Despite injuries on defense, Jones emphasized that no team could use injuries as an excuse, stating that depth should compensate for such challenges. He acknowledged that Detroit’s aggressive gameplay significantly disrupted their offense, especially affecting Prescott and the running game.
Addressing a potential coaching change, Jones shut down any speculation about head coach Mike McCarthy’s future.
