New York Giants kicker Greg Joseph has been ruled out for the team’s game at home on Sunday against the Washington Commanders due to an abdomen injury.

Joseph was unexpectedly scratched on Friday after not being on the injury report all week. His absence raises more concerns for the Giants’ special teams against Washington.

With Graham Gano still unable to play after getting hurt on the opening kickoff in Week 2 against the Commanders, rookie Jude McAtamney is expected to be promoted from the practice squad to play.

McAtamney, a 24-year-old from Northern Ireland, played two seasons of Division I college football at Rutgers.

In their first matchup this season, the Giants lost 21-18 to Washington after scoring three touchdowns but missing an extra point and two 2-point conversions while Gano was out due to a hamstring injury. Gano was added to the injury report late that week with a groin issue, but the team chose not to promote McAtamney as a backup.

Since joining New York, Joseph has made 13 of 16 field goal attempts. The team received some good news on Friday when running back Tyrone Tracy was cleared to play after going through the concussion protocol.
