After suffering seven straight losses, the Saints decided to make a big change.
New Orleans has let go of head coach Dennis Allen, according to several reports.
The season started well with wins against the Panthers and Cowboys, but things quickly went downhill for the NFC South team. Although Derek Carr returned from his injury on Sunday, they lost to the Panthers on the road.
This prompted team owner Gayle Benson to take action.
Allen was brought in as head coach in 2022 after Sean Payton stepped down. He had been the defensive coordinator since 2015. The Saints had a record of 7-10 in Allen’s first season and finished 9-8 in 2023. His overall record with the Saints is 18-25.
This is the second time Allen has been fired midseason as a head coach; he was let go by the Raiders after starting the 2014 season 0-4 following two disappointing seasons.
The Saints will face the Falcons in Week 10.
