David Datro Fofana’s long-range strike and an own-goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos had initially put Burnley ahead at halftime, breaking their month-long goal drought. West Ham found themselves trailing after just 11 minutes when Fofana unleashed a stunning strike from 25 yards out, despite facing little pressure from the Burnley defense.
A moment of misfortune compounded West Ham’s woes when Mavropanos inadvertently redirected Josh Cullen’s cross into his own net. However, the hosts rallied after the break, with Lucas Paqueta pulling one back for West Ham within a minute of the restart, capitalizing on Burnley’s defensive error.
While West Ham thought they had equalized through Ings, VAR intervened, ruling Michail Antonio offside in the buildup. In stoppage time, Ings ensured a share of the spoils for Burnley, receiving a pass from Mohammed Kudus and calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.
With Burnley languishing in 19th place, 10 points adrift of safety with 10 games left, and West Ham sitting in seventh, both teams face different challenges in the remainder of the season.
