Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gautam Gambhir has reached out to party president JP Nadda, seeking to step down from his political responsibilities. In a message shared on his official social media account on Saturday, March 2, the ex-cricketer expressed his desire to prioritize his cricketing commitments.

Gambhir, aged 42, who represents the East Delhi constituency as a BJP MP, assumed the role of mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in November 2023. With him at the helm, KKR clinched victories in the 2012 and 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.

Taking to his social media platform, Gambhir conveyed his intention to exit from politics, stating:

“I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for allowing me to serve the people. Jai Hind.”

Gambhir, a former India opener, joined the BJP in 2019 and emerged as a prominent figure for the party in Delhi. He secured victory in the East Delhi seat during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with a significant margin of 6,95,109 votes.
