Giannis Antetokounmpo’s absence didn’t deter the Milwaukee Bucks in their playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. With their star sidelined, it was evident from the start who would shoulder the offensive load.

Damian Lillard ignited the court in Game 1, pouring in an impressive 35 points—all in the first half—as the Bucks secured a convincing 109–94 win at the Fiserv Forum.

Coach Doc Rivers didn’t hold back his admiration for Lillard’s stellar performance, particularly highlighting his dominant first-half showing as instrumental in Milwaukee’s victory. “He carried us. He was unbelievable,” Rivers praised.

Lillard’s explosive display marked a milestone in Bucks’ playoff history, with his 35 first-half points setting a new franchise record. Despite his scoring prowess diminishing in the second half, the Bucks maintained control to clinch the win.

The seasoned All-Star showcased his scoring prowess, shooting 11-of-24 from the field, including six successful three-pointers, and maintaining a perfect record from the free-throw line, sinking all seven attempts. Additionally, he contributed three assists and six rebounds in 38 minutes of play.

As the series progresses, Milwaukee aims to secure another victory in Game 2 on home turf before heading to Indianapolis for Games 3 and 4. With Antetokounmpo’s availability uncertain, Lillard could once again play a pivotal role in the upcoming matchup.
