England forward Cole Palmer has signed a two-year contract extension with Chelsea, keeping him with the club until 2033, the Premier League team announced Tuesday.
Palmer moved from Manchester City to Chelsea last September. He had a standout season in the Premier League, scoring 22 goals—just behind Erling Haaland of Manchester City—and earned a spot on England’s team for the European Championship.
The 22-year-old Palmer also scored for England as a substitute in their 2-1 loss to Spain in the final.
With this new deal, Palmer will stay with Chelsea for the next nine years, as part of the club’s strategy to secure their young talents with long-term contracts.
“I achieved a lot in my first season here,” he said, “and hopefully I can continue to experience great things at this club, both personally and by helping Chelsea win success and trophies.”
Palmer is also on the shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year award, with the winner to be announced on Aug. 20.
