Manchester United’s incoming sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is reportedly eyeing his first signing from Premier League rivals Chelsea, as per reports from The Sun.

Having an informal agreement with INEOS, who recently acquired a stake in Manchester United, Ashworth is awaiting an official approach to seal the deal. He intends to revamp the support team at Old Trafford, with Chelsea’s analyst Kyle Macaulay among his targets.

Despite concerns from Newcastle manager Eddie Howe regarding Ashworth’s comprehensive understanding of the club’s finances, logistics, and transfer targets, the move seems imminent.

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville criticized the club’s lack of a sporting director over the past decade, labeling their approach as ‘naive’. He emphasized the need for a more structured approach to transfers and operations, suggesting a significant change in strategy with Ashworth’s arrival.

With expectations high among United supporters, Ashworth’s appointment signals a potential shift towards more strategic and efficient decision-making, aiming for a return to Premier League glory.
