Eberechi Eze celebrates after scoring a goal

Spending hundreds of millions on new players hasn’t guaranteed Chelsea wins in the Premier League.

On Sunday, Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Crystal Palace, leaving them with only one win in their first three league games this season, despite a big 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton last week.

Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze scored a beautiful goal from the edge of the area in the 53rd minute to earn them a point. Palace had spent much of the summer trying to keep key players like Eze.

Chelsea, meanwhile, brought in 12 new players at a cost of about $290 million, as part of a major spending spree by their American investors. Only one of the new players, Pedro Neto, started against Palace. The goal for Chelsea came from Nicolas Jackson, who scored from a pass by Cole Palmer.

Chelsea has earned four points from a possible nine so far, with an earlier loss to Manchester City.

Newcastle defeated Tottenham 2-1 with Alexander Isak scoring the winning goal in the 78th minute at St. James’ Park, keeping Newcastle unbeaten with seven points.

Tottenham’s Dan Burn scored an own goal in the 56th minute, which followed a goal by Harvey Barnes in the 37th.

Later on Sunday, Manchester United will play Liverpool in a highly anticipated match in English soccer.
