Andriy Lunin

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has affirmed his desire to continue his tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu. Despite his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, the Ukrainian shot-stopper has expressed his preference to remain with the club.

Amidst recent speculation linking him with a move to Celtic during the January transfer window, Lunin opted to remain with Real Madrid. Speaking to El Chiringuito (via Football Espana), he emphasized his commitment to the club’s future, stating:

“Obviously, I would like to stay.”

Since joining Real Madrid in 2018, Lunin has primarily served as a backup to Thibaut Courtois. Both goalkeepers arrived at the club during the same summer, with Courtois making the switch from Chelsea.

Lunin’s patience and dedication have been evident despite his secondary role.

The arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea last summer further complicated Lunin’s position in the squad, particularly after Courtois sustained an ACL injury. Despite potential frustrations, Lunin maintained a professional outlook, acknowledging the team’s decisions.

Recently, Lunin’s perseverance has been rewarded with increased playing time, accumulating 15 appearances compared to Kepa’s 18. His latest declaration regarding his future with Real Madrid provides reassurance to the club, signaling stability in the goalkeeping department for the foreseeable future.
