Mainz players celebrates after a goal

Tim Kleindienst scored, and Borussia Moenchengladbach came back after an own goal to finish with a 1-1 draw against Mainz in the Bundesliga on Friday.

Stefan Lainer’s own goal 10 minutes into the second half gave Mainz the lead and raised hopes for their first home win in five games.

However, Kleindienst quickly equalized by heading the ball in just two minutes later, getting his sixth goal of the season. He is now only behind Harry Kane and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush on the Bundesliga scoring list.

This result was another letdown for Mainz, especially since their top scorer, Jonathan Burkardt, had to leave the game due to injury after 20 minutes.

The point on Friday was only Mainz’s second at home out of a possible 15, and they were grateful for goalkeeper Robin Zentner, who made several great saves against Moenchengladbach’s attackers.

Moenchengladbach moved up to ninth place, while Mainz dropped to three spots lower.
