Spain midfielder Pedri has forgiven Toni Kroos for causing his exit from the European Championship.
Pedri suffered a left knee injury from a tough challenge by Kroos early in Spain’s quarterfinal win over Germany. Kroos apologized publicly to Pedri in an Instagram post after the match, which happened to be his final game.
“Thank you Toni Kroos for your message,” Pedri wrote on social media. “In football, these things happen. Your career and achievements will always be remembered.”
Pedri had to leave the match in the eighth minute, but Spain went on to win 2-1 in extra time, with Mikel Merino scoring the decisive goal assisted by Pedri’s replacement, Dani Olmo, who had scored the opener.
Despite his injury, Pedri will remain with the Spanish squad for the remainder of the tournament, including the semifinal against France and potentially the final against either England or the Netherlands.
“I came to Euro 2024 with Spain and will stay until the end,” Pedri affirmed. “The journey continues, and this week I will support and contribute in other ways to this wonderful team. Your support and that of everyone has been incredible. The toughest part is behind me, and I’m already on the road to recovery to return stronger with Barcelona.”
