Xabi Alonso is leaning towards Bayern Munich over Liverpool as talks begin following a promising indication

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso appears to be leaning towards a move to Bayern Munich rather than Liverpool if he decides to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, signaling a positive inclination towards the Bundesliga giants.

Both of Alonso’s former clubs, Liverpool and Bayern, are eyeing him as a potential replacement for their current managers, with Thomas Tuchel and Bayern parting ways while Jürgen Klopp announced his departure in January.

Alonso, currently focused on managing Bayer Leverkusen, remains non-committal about his future, stating, “I have nothing new to say about that. I wanted to say that in advance. Right now I’m the coach here, that’s for sure. For the future I have nothing new to say, we’ll see.”

While Liverpool and Bayern vie for his attention, reports suggest Alonso is equally inclined to stay with Leverkusen beyond the summer or consider a move to Real Madrid in 2025.

Thomas Tuchel

Sky Sports Germany reported Bayern’s initiation of discussions with Alonso over replacing Tuchel, with a potential transfer fee between €15m and €25m, although his fixed exit clause of €15m doesn’t come into play until 2025.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg noted Alonso’s preference for remaining in Germany if he chooses to move, citing his reservations about joining Liverpool due to concerns over the legacy of Jurgen Klopp.

Former Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster advised Alonso against leaving Leverkusen, drawing parallels with his own experience of leaving a smaller club for a bigger one too soon. He emphasized the value of continuity and development within Leverkusen, urging Alonso to consider the potential growth with his current team.
