Garrett Mitchell, a player for the Milwaukee Brewers, has a fracture in his left hand and is expected to miss the beginning of the season.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy informed reporters about the injury on Monday and mentioned that Mitchell was seeing a specialist.

This is not the first time Mitchell has faced injury setbacks since being drafted by the Brewers from UCLA in 2020. He had surgery last May for a torn labrum, causing him to miss most of the 2023 season. However, he returned to play towards the end of September.

Last season, Mitchell played 19 games, hitting .246 with a .315 on-base percentage, three home runs, and seven RBIs. In 2022, he played 28 games, batting .311 with a .373 on-base percentage, two home runs, nine RBIs, and eight stolen bases.

Mitchell had a strong performance in spring training and was likely to have significant playing time this year before the injury. During spring training, he batted .319 with a .385 on-base percentage, one home run, eight RBIs, and two stolen bases in 47 at-bats.

The Brewers, who were the defending NL Central champions, have faced several injury challenges this spring. All-Star closer Devin Williams, who won his second National League Reliever of the Year award last season, is dealing with two stress fractures in his back and might be out for at least three months. Milwaukee’s season begins on Thursday in New York against the Mets.
