Jo Adell smashed a three-run homer and Kevin Pillar contributed with three hits and three RBIs in the Los Angeles Angels’ 9-3 win against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.
Logan O’Hoppe also added a two-run double during a four-run seventh inning for the Angels, who managed to secure only their sixth victory in 22 games.
“We had some solid at-bats in crucial moments,” commented Angels manager Ron Washington. “Our aim is to maintain this level of performance consistently. If we can keep it up, we have the potential to become a very reliable team, especially with the young players we have developing.”
Tyler Anderson, pitching for the Halos, allowed three runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, putting an end to his winless streak of five starts. He retired 12 batters in a row during one stretch of the game.
“It feels good to get a win,” said Anderson, reflecting on his performance. “But it’s a team effort, and we’ve been competitive in many of these games.”
The Royals’ Salvador Pérez managed an RBI double early in the game, but their three-game winning streak came to a halt.
Cole Ragans, pitching for Kansas City, gave up eight hits and seven runs over 6 1/3 innings, marking his first loss in four starts. He struggled with his command and only recorded three strikeouts, his lowest of the season.
“Ragans seemed a bit off with his delivery, affecting his control,” noted Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro. “Although his stuff was good, he couldn’t execute as well as he wanted, especially in the seventh inning.”
