Liverpool’s hopes for the Premier League title took a hit with a 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at home. This loss comes shortly after their 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League quarterfinals.

Eberechi Eze scored for Crystal Palace in the 14th minute, marking Liverpool’s first home league defeat in 28 matches, a streak dating back to October 2022.

Despite chances for Wataru Endo hitting the crossbar and missed opportunities by Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones, Liverpool couldn’t find an equalizer.

In the closing moments, Mohamed Salah had a chance to level the score, but his shot was blocked by Tyrick Mitchell.

Beginning the weekend in second place, Liverpool now finds themselves in third, trailing first-place Manchester City by two points after City’s 5-1 victory over Luton. Arsenal, previously ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, also suffered a loss, falling 2-0 to Aston Villa.

Last month, Liverpool was knocked out of the FA Cup quarterfinals by Manchester United, putting an end to Jurgen Klopp’s team’s hopes of winning four trophies, with the League Cup already in the bag.

In the past week, Liverpool drew with United in the league and then suffered consecutive defeats at home in different competitions.

When asked if the loss to Crystal Palace was a result of their previous defeat to Atalanta, Klopp responded, “It could be.” He noted that typically his teams excel in pressing and counter-pressing, but in the first half against Palace, they were unusually open.

Klopp acknowledged that the recent bad game against Atalanta might have affected their performance against Palace, despite playing well on the day, albeit without scoring.
