Cal Raleigh hit home runs from both sides of the plate for the second time in three days, while J.P. Crawford contributed with a two-run homer and three hits, leading the Seattle Mariners to an 11-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.
The Mariners got off to a strong start with Jorge Polanco’s two-run single in a four-run first inning, capitalizing on the major league debut of Jack Kochanowicz (0-1). Seattle continued to dominate with 15 hits, marking their third consecutive victory as they began a four-game series in Anaheim.
Raleigh’s impressive performance included a solo homer from the left side in the third inning and a three-run blast from the right side in the sixth. His 19 home runs set a new record for Seattle catchers before the All-Star break.
“Cal Raleigh is on fire,” commented Mariners manager Scott Servais.
“It’s not easy to hit home runs from both sides of the plate, and to do it twice in three games is truly remarkable. When he gets hot, he can really make an impact.”
Luis Castillo (8-9) pitched six strong innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five to secure consecutive wins for the first time since April. Seattle’s pitching staff extended its scoreless streak to 19 innings with their second consecutive shutout and tenth of the season.
The Angels struggled offensively, with Mickey Moniak collecting two hits in a game where they were shut out for the fourth time in their last nine outings. Kochanowicz, called up directly from Double-A Rocket City, lasted three innings, yielding four earned runs on seven hits and hitting two batters.
