Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros

Logan Gilbert pitched eight strong innings, while Luis Urías and Cal Raleigh hit home runs as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 5-0 on Saturday night.

Gilbert, with a record of 3-0, gave up only two hits and four walks while striking out six batters. This marked his sixth start out of seven where he allowed two runs or less.

“It’s reassuring to have that kind of support,” Gilbert commented on the run support. “It gives me confidence to pitch aggressively and maintain the momentum they’ve created.”

The right-hander retired 16 of 17 batters at one stretch and also benefited from three double plays.

“He showed great aggression,” noted Seattle manager Scott Servais. “He consistently found the strike zone. Facing a formidable hitting team like Houston, you need to mix up your pitches effectively and land them. His slider, curveball, and splitter were all spot-on tonight.”

Servais praised the team’s performance, calling it “probably the most complete game we’ve played all year.”

“What Logan did was remarkable,” Servais added. “He’s in a great rhythm. His adjustments throughout the game were impressive. Both Logan and Cal did an excellent job against the Astros lineup.”

Urías led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to center field, while Raleigh’s two-run homer to left-center came in the sixth. Mitch Garver contributed with an RBI double in the fourth, and Ty France scored on Raleigh’s double-play groundout in the second.

Astros starter Framber Valdez (1-1) surrendered five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. This marked a departure from his previous three starts where he had allowed three runs or fewer.
