In Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds center fielder Stuart Fairchild pulled off an incredible catch to prevent Manny Machado from hitting a three-run homer in the first inning.

Despite Spencer Steer’s homer giving the Reds an early lead, it seemed like the Padres would take control with Machado’s powerful hit towards right-center.

However, Fairchild dashed to catch the ball, leaping high to grab it just before it could clear the fence.

Despite crashing into the low fence, Fairchild managed to keep his balance and threw the ball back in, preventing any further damage.

This catch brought back memories of a similar play made by San Diego native Adam Jones during the 2017 World Baseball Classic, where he also prevented Machado from hitting a home run. In Tuesday’s game, Machado had redeemed himself with a three-run double, helping the Padres secure a 6-4 victory and end their losing streak.
