The Arizona Diamondbacks have put starting pitcher Ryne Nelson on the 15-day injured list because of inflammation in his right shoulder.

This injury is a setback for the team, which is fighting hard for a spot in the National League wild card race. Nelson has been one of the Diamondbacks’ top pitchers in recent months, holding a 10-6 record and a 4.33 ERA.

The injury list move is backdated to September 11, so Nelson might be able to return before the regular season ends. The Diamondbacks have called up left-handed pitcher Brandon Hughes to replace Nelson on the roster.

Additionally, the Diamondbacks have announced that catcher Andrew Knizner has been designated for assignment.
