Part-time NASCAR driver Gray Gaulding suspended after arrest

Twenty-six-year-old Gaulding, despite holding a NASCAR license, has yet to kick off his season in a NASCAR National Series race. However, his aspirations took a hit as NASCAR levied an indefinite suspension on him on Wednesday.

NASCAR’s decision stemmed from Gaulding’s violation of Section 4.4.D of the NASCAR Rule Book, specifically the Member Code of Conduct. This action followed Gaulding’s arrest on Tuesday morning in Cornelius, N.C., on a magistrate’s order. He promptly appeared in court at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse in Charlotte on the same day.

Following his court appearance, Gaulding was released without bail and entrusted to the custody of his father, with an obligation to appear for his next scheduled court date on July 25. A stipulation of his release bars Gaulding from contacting the victim.

Gaulding’s recent NASCAR endeavors include 11 starts in the Xfinity Series and one in the Cup during the last season, where he clinched a pair of top 10 finishes in Xfinity with SS-Green Light Racing. Throughout his career, spanning since 2014, Gaulding has accumulated 19 starts in Trucks, 79 in Xfinity, and 60 in the Cup series.

Noteworthy performances include securing runner-up positions twice in Xfinity – at Talladega in 2019 and Daytona in 2020. Additionally, he clinched a victory in what is now known as the ARCA West Series at Phoenix back in 2013.

Gaulding’s trajectory in stock car racing once sparkled with promise. At the age of 12, he clinched a Legends car national championship. His prowess continued as he became the youngest Super Late Model race winner at age 13, alongside being the youngest driver to secure Rookie of the Year honors in the Pro All-Star Series (PASS).
