DaRon Holmes II at the red carpet beofre the draft

Denver rookie DaRon Holmes II had surgery to fix his injured right Achilles tendon after getting hurt in the Nuggets’ NBA Summer League debut.

The Nuggets announced on Monday that Dr. Kenneth Hunt performed the surgery at UCHealth Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver. There’s no set timeline for Holmes’ return to the court.

Holmes, who played college basketball at Dayton, scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 26 minutes during Denver’s 88-78 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers last Friday.

He was originally selected by Phoenix as the 22nd pick in the draft, but the Nuggets acquired his rights in exchange for the 28th pick, the 56th pick, and two future second-round picks.

Denver had high hopes for Holmes due to his versatility. He was recognized as the Atlantic 10 co-player of the year and defensive player of the year.
